Art Commission Options and Pricing Guide

Sketch

A simple sketch, typically in black and white. Can be done digitally or physically, the price is similar except for the cost of the paper and shipping. These are generally pretty loose and unrefined.

Prices start at $20-30 for a single character or creature sketch on a digital canvas approximately 2000x3000 pixels. May be more if the idea is more complex or a large size is required.

Digital Speedpaint

A step above the sketch option, this one boasts full color. It is loose and unrefined, giving it a raw, wild feel.

Prices will vary depending on the complexity, but generally range from around $60-90 for a custom speedpaint intended for personal use.

Digital Painting

Much more detailed and polished than a speedpaint, this option includes full rendering, including a background.

Watercolor Painting

Sketch (if any) is made with a waterproof pen ink on watercolor paper. Larger paintings are done on large sheets of Arches cold pressed paper, broken to size with the rough edges left intact. There will be a white border all around the painting, no less than 1/2 inch thick, and no more than 1 inch thick.

Smaller, simpler paintings that rely more heavily on the pen drawing may be done on a hot-press paper with a smoother surface and a cut edge.

Prices are determined first by the size of the painting, and then by the complexity.

Minimum size is 5x5 inches. Maximum size is 22x30 inches.

Prices start at approximately $1.60 per square inch, but may be more for more complex paintings.

Oil Painting

Not currently available, but I hope to be able to offer this option again soon.

Oil paintings are painted on stretched canvas, canvas boards, or primed wood panels and sealed with a varnish. These take a long time to dry so extra time and care must be taken before shipping an oil painting.

Glow-in-the-Dark Painting

These paintings are created with special phosphorescent pigments. I mix the pigments directly into acrylic mediums in order to customize the pigment load for the specific project, and use these custom paints along with regular acrylic paint pigments. I have a variety of colors available, but not all are as bright or have the same glow time. Some colors may appear slightly differently under a black light. Green, aqua, and blue tend to show up the best, while red tends to fade very quickly. The pigments tend to be a little grainy, so the finish will be somewhat textured. The larger the grain size, the more it will glow.

These pigments will charge under regular light, but for best results, charge with the sun or a black light.

Typically used with canvas or canvas board. Painting custom objects (such as surfboard fins or similar items) is also possible depending on the object. Price of materials (canvas type etc.) and size of the painting will affect the price.
